A report by Nation Newspapers revealed that Amosu's lawyer, Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), made the disclosure while arguing the ex-Chief of Air Staff's bail application.
Arguing the bail application before Justice Mohammed Idris,
Ayorinde stressed that Amosu has always cooperated with the prosecution
since his arrest in January 2016 and should be granted bail as the case
continues.
In the words of Ayorinde, “He has
remitted colossal sums of money to the federal government, although not
in admittance of guilt, but out of cooperation with security agencies."
Continuing, Amosu's lawyer said, “My
application is that bail be granted to the first defendant on
self-recognisance. Let those terms be liberal. He has been reporting to
the EFCC, sometimes twice a week. The first defendant will make himself
available for trial.”
Earlier in the week, the EFCC had arraigned Amosu alongside Air Vice Marshal Jacob Adigun and Air Commodore Olugbenga Gbadebo alongside with eight companies before a High Court.
The anti-graft agency had accused the defendants of converting N21 billion from the NAF on March 5, 2014 in Lagos.
